Detroit\'s downward spiral threatens to spill across border

Lyke Thompson, director of Wayne State University's Center for Urban Studies, commented in a story about the 2010 census data released last week and the decline in Michigan's population. He said, "There are two major reasons. The most important reason is the general decline in manufacturing, and specifically in the auto industry, in the late 2000s. The second most important reason is the over-building that took place in the fringe suburbs of the Detroit metropolitan area . . . There were just too many houses built.\" The article ran in numerous Canadian publications.
